"I want to leave pieces of my love everywhere. Pieces that will remain long after I am gone. The best way I have found to do that is to make quilts."

How Southern Works Was Born

Four years ago, I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer.

I did not know at the time how things would turn out, but I decided I had to make each moment count - just in case. I have always loved quilts. I loved that for generations family members would cherish a quilt that was passed down through a family even if they did not know or remember who made it. I had no time to lose. I began teaching myself to quilt. I wanted to leave something for my family to hold on to and remember that I love them. I have an amazing husband of 35 years, two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandsons. I have sisters and brothers and nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many cousins, In laws and a lot of friends. I had a lot of work to do. I have made over 100 quilts in those two years and by the grace of God, I am cancer free. I have gifted most of those quilts and found a passion. I decided since I couldn't stop quilting I would spread the love even farther. Southern Works was born.

Southern Sayings

I was born and grew up in Mississippi. I love southern culture and traditions. My heritage is rich with southern sayings which I also customize and make for sale. Not just on my quilts, but on other things as well. If you are a southern girl like me, you'll understand. If not, I can explain. I have had to do that many times for my grandsons who live where I do in the mountains of New Mexico.
